Every now and then a majestic piece of furniture wanders into our showroom. Sometimes these pieces sneak in unnoticed and sit in a corner until a sophisticated buyer recognizes the history, the subtle beauty and the value. When this 1880's English born mahogany partner's desk hit our floor, we cleared out a section and placed it where everyone could admire its beauty.
We didn't have a choice in the matter as the desk measures 87" Wide and 54.5" deep. That is a lot of surface area. So much surface space that one could play a fun game of ping pong on it. So we decided to see test our ping pong theory and have a game of ping pong on this fabulous desk. (watch the video of 10 year old Collin taking on his Dad in ping pong).
The green leather has a gold leaf etching around the border and it is in fantastic condition. The ping pong ball bounced with precision off the soft leather which has hardly even a divot in it.
When we needed some extra playing space, we propped up the drop leaf on the far side of desk. The traditional use of the desk is for business partners to work across from each other each day and every day. There was no need for texting or cell phones back in the day when this desk was properly employed. communication was direct and constant. Everyone worked in the same office. Now partners work together on different continents, but we still believe the desk has a place in store for it -- somewhere. And when the secretary came in to meet with the partners she would sit at the end of the desk, prop-up the the leaf and take diligent notes.
The desk seems to have all of its original parts, but it is possible that at one point it may have had wooden knobs which might make the desk a little older than we think. The desk is currently priced at $12,000. It is one of a kind and a magnificent piece that can double as a gaming table when partners tire of work. Come check out this fabulous piece of furniture in our Hanover Furniture Consignment Gallery located 20 minutes South of Boston.

The desk was extracted from a grand Victorian home in Boston's, prestigious, Brookline neighborhood. The original owner purchased the desk new about 15 years ago and paid more than double our asking price. The desk is in tip top condition and is beautiful in scale. It has an amazing, multi-part construction infrastructure so that it comes apart into smaller pieces so that it can be moved through doors and up stairs. The tulip wood veneers are fabulous. The desk is a true masterpiece. Clearly this desk is not for everyone, but for someone who has a high end clientele visiting their office or who wants to make an incredible statement in a home office; this desk is a must see. The desk is priced at $8,499 and can be viewed in our Chestnut Hill location.
the first piece of Swaim Furniture we have ever had in our showroom and all we hear from our customers is: can you get more of it? I'm telling you, this upholstered sofa is just dynamite. It features a woven linen Kravet fabric with nailhead trim. The contemporary squared off arm and the fine lines make this a wonderful transitional piece. The cushions offer the perfect blend of support and comfort. One of the few sofas that I have sat in that I seriously wanted to take home with me.
