1940s Walnut Executive Desk

Posted by Jay Frucci on Sat, October 15, 2011 @ 06: 08 AM

The 1940s was a great time for furniture production in America. Our country was recovering from the great depression and people were establishing themselves once again. Italian and Irish immigrants were finding work, buying land and building homes. The American Dream was alive again! And people needed furniture.

Thanks to the Industrial Revo196sf2fhlution craftsman now had machines to help build furniture so not everything had to been done by hand. However, these craftsman still had great skills that they would find ways to put to use. In many cases, these craftsman would get creative and they would add a hidden compartment in a dresser or create a unique mechanism that would allow for a table to expand.  Machines were taking away the craftsman's ability to create and have fun with a piece so it is common with some pieces in the 1940s to see these creative touches in furniture.

What is really neat about this desk is that when you close the center top drawer, it

automatically locks the top two drawers on the right and on the left. This is very creative because that way, only the center drawer would need to be locked and important papers could be stored in either of the drawers on the left and right side. This feature is pretty cool and is likely the result of a craftsman who was looking for a way to make the desk special.

This walnut desk is beautiful.  Most desks from this era were much smaller. They didn't have large computers and large rooms. This desk was probably built for an executive at a thriving company because the average person, even a business man, would have had little need for a desk of this size. For most people, a simple secretary with a flip down desk was all that was needed to write personal notes or to maintain a chart of accounts.

The wood grain on this desk is stunning and even though it has been refinished, it is in excellent condition and there are no signs of any repair work. The desk is a great deal, is super functional and is priced at $1,170.

You can find wonderful pieces like this refinished 1940s executive desk at our Hanover Furniture Consignment Gallery or at our newest Furniture Consignment Gallery in Newton, MA.

Deal of the Week- French Oak Dining Set

Posted by Jay Frucci on Sat, June 25, 2011 @ 07: 10 AM

uimg 8003This large, solid oak, French Country Dining set is our Deal of the Week at our Furniture Consignment Gallery in Hanover, MA. It is item number 48-2328 in our inventory. Priced at $1,800, with 10 chairs, this set is an incredible value. Breaking the costs down to $180 per chair, the table is essentially a throw in.  Shop anywhere and it is hard to find this kind of value even in the furniture discount stores. Not to be confused, however, this is not a discount set. This is solid furniture built in the 1950s. It has been refinished and the chairs are solid.describe the image

The table extends 119.5" when fully extended which includes (3) 31.5" leaves. This is quite a set for the money.0uimg 8007

In addition, what we really like about this set is its ability to blend with various kinds of woods.  In our showroom we have it positioned near a blond mahogany Thomasville hutch and it is opposite a darker mahogany English Server. This set offers a lot of flexibility for seating and decorating. We think it is a great deal!

And tell Nick to Eat his Sandwich in the break room.  You'll have to watch the video to see.

Mahogany 1940s Bedroom Set - Deal of the Week

Posted by Jay Frucci on Fri, February 25, 2011 @ 03: 46 PM

This week we shine our Furniture Spotlight on Circa 1940s Mahogany Bedroom Set. This set comes with a dresser, two nightstands, a full size head board, foot board and rails. It is an excellent value at $1,300. Compare this set with what new furniture stores are offering and see what you can find for $1,300 in a bedroom set. We think that you will agree that this is a tremendous deal. The quality and craftsmanship of the 1940s is not replicated in today's marketplace especially for the price. This is a set that can be refinished time and time again. Place this set in a spare bedroom, or buy it for a teenager who has outgrown their childhood furniture. As your teenager moves through life, this set could go with them to their first apartment, first home and then be passed onto their children. This set should out live all of us. It is great quality, has a great look and we don't think you can beat this deal. This set is item number 2135-3 in our inventory.
