Purchased from the Boston Design Center twenty-five years ago, this set has a bit of fading and wear, but would be well worth a small investment to liven the finish and with that, this set would be a knock-out.
This set does not have a name brand, but is very unique in its styling and is very high quality. The carved backs and feet make this set a high-end winner and it is a fantastic deal at $1,050.00 This set could go in a library, kitchen, foyer, or a small dining area.
You can find great deals like this in our Hanover Furniture Consignment Gallery and our newest Consignment Furniture store in Chestnut Hill.
Our focus this week is on Bent Bros. which was the fourth oldest New England Furniture manufacturer. They didn't just make chairs, but that was their specialty. They worked mostly with solid maple woods and their most popular creations are the solid maple Windsor chairs which we have in our inventory. These chairs were made in the 1960s and they are as solid as they were the day they were purchased. They are made from all solid woods, are hand planed, glued, screwed and joined in all of the right ways. These chairs should outlive generations and they still look great.
Sadly, many of these wonderful manufacturers of chairs have struggled to the point of having to close their doors. Recently in New England we have lost Hitchcock Chair Co., Nichols and Stone and others. Imports have arrived such as the Hooker dining table and chairs that we also have in our inventory. These imports have a more updated design, an appealing finish and are very attractive. The chair made by Hooker which is imported from China appears to be very solid and sturdy as well. But when we examine the chair closer, it is supported and secured with a weak engineered wood. Held together by a hex screw, nothing is glued or joined in a proper way. In fact, this chair was assembled from parts on its arrival to the original retailer's warehouse. What this means is that these screws will loosen and when they do, the chair will have play in it. When the chair rocks back and forth from this play, the engineered wood won't be strong enough to support the weight of an individual's shifting weight. The connecting wood at the corners of the chair could crack and the engineered wood is difficult to repair.
The, new, imported chairs have cut corners and prices and they have challenged the mettle of America's best chair companies. Bent Bros is no longer producing chairs, but these featured chairs will carry on for generations. The imported chairs may hold together for five to ten years. That is a drastic difference. If these Bent Bros. chairs were manufactured today, they would retail for between $500 - $700 each. This set of eight chairs is priced for $1,499.
This week we shine our Furniture Spotlight on Circa 1940s Mahogany Bedroom Set. This set comes with a dresser, two nightstands, a full size head board, foot board and rails. It is an excellent value at $1,300. Compare this set with what new furniture stores are offering and see what you can find for $1,300 in a bedroom set. We think that you will agree that this is a tremendous deal. The quality and craftsmanship of the 1940s is not replicated in today's marketplace especially for the price. This is a set that can be refinished time and time again. Place this set in a spare bedroom, or buy it for a teenager who has outgrown their childhood furniture. As your teenager moves through life, this set could go with them to their first apartment, first home and then be passed onto their children. This set should out live all of us. It is great quality, has a great look and we don't think you can beat this deal. This set is item number 2135-3 in our inventory.
Furniture Consignment Gallery's deal of the week is this Thomasville solid oak bunk bed. This is a great price for a bunk bed at just $360.00! Sure you can find a Bunk Bed at Ikea for under $300, but if you are looking for a quality bed with longevity, you may consider this Thomasville piece which is selling on consignment. If it wouldn't work in your house, it might work in a lake house or a ski chalet. This is a great bed for kids, the top is set low so it's not too high for a child to climb up on and it makes it easier to make the bed. It has the bunkie boards included so you don't have to worry about buying them.

This exclusive furniture is very upscale pre-owned furniture.
The Lionhead hardware alone would cost a great deal of money. This can be put in your bedroom, hallway, or dining room. A lamp or two will accent this beautifully. It is a standalone piece that will bring great decor to your home. This piece, if purchased new, would be priced at around Six thousand dollars. This week we shine our Furniture Spotlight on a pair of mahogany twin beds with hand carved, pineapple tops. The beds are item number 348-203 in our inventory. These beds are made from solid mahogany and are circa 1920s. They have been recently refinished with a dark mahogany stain. The price of the beds just dropped to their final markdown price and are now being sold at $700 for the pair. This is way below market value! Consider that a new twin bed at a furniture store that sells quality furniture would sell for between $400 - $700 for a single twin bed. Yet this pair of beds, which is of greater quality and substance than most beds you can find in the marketplace, are being sold for $700 for the pair or for $350 each. This is why we made these beds our Deal of The Week. Watch the video as Jay explains.
We begin our Deal of the Week blog by shining our Furniture Spotlight on a painted metal bed that is really a great deal. This bed is item number 2081-11 in our inventory and is selling for $270! This metal bed is faux painted, with scroll work and is very solid. It is a quality piece of furniture that has some weight to it and will not shake when the dog jumps on the bed. As Jay mentions in the video, there is nothing worse than a shaky bed.
We are big fans of metal beds because they are very versatile as you can position it with all different types of furniture and they do a nice job showcasing your bedding. Watch as Jay describes why we selected this bed as our Deal of the Week.
