Kimball International Ladder Back Chairs

Posted by Jay Frucci on Fri, April 13, 2012 @ 01: 29 PM

0uimg 1728Chair manufacturing has dramatically changed in the last ten years. Not too long ago, crafting a quality chair was a heavily involved and time consuming process. High end manufacturers still take the time to hand carve and custom construct beautiful chairs, but they are labor intensive with skilled craftsman. The end result is a nice chair with a hefty price tag that will look great for generations.
In the modern era of chair construction, engineered woods are machine turned overseas and packed into a kit that is assembled with hex screws in a warehouse. The result is an inexpensive chair with weak construction. When, the screws loosen and an enthusiastic guest rocks slightly back and forth, your guest may find himself planted on the ground with his chair in pieces.uimg 1730

This set of (8) arm chairs by Kimball International are excellent construction built from solid cherry woods. They are hand carved by skilled craftsman and are extremely sturdy. Furniture makers of yesteryear would praise these chairs. They are an excellent price at $899 for the set which converts to $112 per chair. That is a far cry from the hundreds of dollars you would have to pay for a similar styled and constructed chair in today's marketplace.

You can find excellent prices and great deals like these Kimball International chairs in Hanover's Furniture Consignment Gallery or in Boston's Furniture Consignment Gallery located in Newton's Chestnut Hill village.

Furniture Spotlight: Jeweler's Workbench converted to Kitchen Island

Posted by Jay Frucci on Fri, January 14, 2011 @ 05: 43 PM

This week we selected a Jeweler's workbench which has been converted into a Kitchen Island as our Furniture Spotlight, Piece of the Week. This piece is item number 2113-1 in our inventory and is selling for $2,999.  This kitchen island features reclaimed wood and parts from an old Jeweler's workbench.   The 3 inch thick solid oak wood working surface has plenty of beauty marks from years of use. We estimate the age of the original table to be between 80 to 100 years old.  Easily identifiable are the areas where the vices and several other tools were used.

Added onto the piece recently are a stainless steel wrapped shelf under the workbench, casters, faux paint on the interior and exterior and a bar top which protrudes out to accommodate bar stool seating. There is plenty of room for additional customizations such as changing the faux paint or replacing the bar top with granite that matches your counter tops instead of the stainless shelf. Watch as Jay describes why he likes this piece so much.

Furniture Spotlight Debut's with our Piece of the Week

Posted by Jay Frucci on Fri, January 14, 2011 @ 05: 42 PM

As we introduce our Furniture Spotlight blog, we are excited to showcase two cherry bedside gentleman's chests.  The chests are items number 48-2045 and 48-2046.  Priced separately, these chests are selling for $499 each and just recently came into our showroom.  These chests were manufactured in the 1950's by the Sanford Furniture Company in North Carolina.  They have solid wood construction and are made from natural American cherry wood. The drawers have dove tail joints on the back and front of the drawer as well as solid cherry construction throughout the drawer.  The bottom runner of the drawer is solid wood so the drawers slide nice and evenly.

These pieces have been refinished recently so they have a nice, current updated finish.  They are a great size with lots of storage for whatever your needs may be. Watch to see why Jay likes these pieces so much.

They can be found on www.furnitureconsignment.com in the New Arrivals category.  They are items 48-2045 and 48-2046.
