Every now and then a majestic piece of furniture wanders into our showroom. Sometimes these pieces sneak in unnoticed and sit in a corner until a sophisticated buyer recognizes the history, the subtle beauty and the value. When this 1880's English born mahogany partner's desk hit our floor, we cleared out a section and placed it where everyone could admire its beauty.
We didn't have a choice in the matter as the desk measures 87" Wide and 54.5" deep. That is a lot of surface area. So much surface space that one could play a fun game of ping pong on it. So we decided to see test our ping pong theory and have a game of ping pong on this fabulous desk. (watch the video of 10 year old Collin taking on his Dad in ping pong).
The green leather has a gold leaf etching around the border and it is in fantastic condition. The ping pong ball bounced with precision off the soft leather which has hardly even a divot in it. When we needed some extra playing space, we propped up the drop leaf on the far side of desk. The traditional use of the desk is for business partners to work across from each other each day and every day. There was no need for texting or cell phones back in the day when this desk was properly employed. communication was direct and constant. Everyone worked in the same office. Now partners work together on different continents, but we still believe the desk has a place in store for it -- somewhere. And when the secretary came in to meet with the partners she would sit at the end of the desk, prop-up the the leaf and take diligent notes.
The desk seems to have all of its original parts, but it is possible that at one point it may have had wooden knobs which might make the desk a little older than we think. The desk is currently priced at $12,000. It is one of a kind and a magnificent piece that can double as a gaming table when partners tire of work. Come check out this fabulous piece of furniture in our Hanover Furniture Consignment Gallery located 20 minutes South of Boston.
This desk was manufactured by Henkel Moore a division of the world renowned furniture maker Henkel Harris Furniture Co. The desk has a gorgeous inlaid 22k gold embossed leather top. Yes, gold. The desk was extracted from a grand Victorian home in Boston's, prestigious, Brookline neighborhood. The original owner purchased the desk new about 15 years ago and paid more than double our asking price. The desk is in tip top condition and is beautiful in scale. It has an amazing, multi-part construction infrastructure so that it comes apart into smaller pieces so that it can be moved through doors and up stairs. The tulip wood veneers are fabulous. The desk is a true masterpiece. Clearly this desk is not for everyone, but for someone who has a high end clientele visiting their office or who wants to make an incredible statement in a home office; this desk is a must see. The desk is priced at $8,499 and can be viewed in our Chestnut Hill location.

The God's honest truth is that this is the first piece of Swaim Furniture we have ever had in our showroom and all we hear from our customers is: can you get more of it? Rock maple dressers are our favorite choice for bedrooms for people from ages zero to 100. That's right they are perfect for all ages. For kids rooms, these are a great fit. They are durable, rock solid and can take all of the abuse that you can throw at it. As your kids grow, these pieces can travel with them to their dorm room, to their first house and then onto their kids rooms. These pieces are that tough and they look that good that you will never want to let them go. They are even a perfect fit for senior housing complexes. These chests serve the entire circle of life. They are less money than you can buy a fancy looking chest at the new furniture stores. Solid maple dressers from the 1950s, are better built, still look great and will outlast all of us. We have maple dressers from $350-$700.
Moosehead furniture is one of our favorite makers who makes no more. You may recall our blog referencing the company titled 3 Past Winners Shine on Resale Market.
We happen to have three identical Moosehead sold maple, mission style twin beds. These beds are all rock solid and will withstand and endure some serious punishment from the most raucous of kids. These beds should be strongly considered to outfit your new vacation home or to replace some tired old beds.
When Moosehead was rolling along these beds retailed at around $800 each and you can find them for what is likely to be a limited time at Furniture Consignment Gallery for $239 each. What a deal that is! And that is why they are our Deal of the week.

Classic early American colonial furniture is a New England favorite in terms of style and quality. There are so many beautiful homes in Massachusetts's that were designed to hold furniture like these pieces. This week we feature a classic cherry hutch and a dining table with (2) leaves and (4) chairs.
These wonderful reproduction pieces were made by Nichols & Stone a furniture manufacturer that was a leader in the community and in its field.
In fact, Nichols & Stone once had a towering presence in the town of Gardner Massachusetts where the very best early American Furniture was produced for the better part of the twentieth century. What separates Nichols and Stone from the pack is the finish, the top quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

You won't see this very often. You certainly wouldn't guess that this chest of drawers was made by Drexel Heritage. This piece is one of a kind as the original construction is a 1940s Drexle Mahaongy chest. It was a very common piece and one of Drexel's best sellers in its' day. But it didn't look like this. This chest of drawers was re-built by a furniture hobbiest. The bones
of the piece are of the original circa 1940s piece, but the veneer work is all new. The veneers were constructed by a first generation Italian craftsman who built by hand an inlaid satin starburst on the surface top. He crafted keyhole accents from genuine ivory and designed a hand cut a satin banded inlay that outlines each of the drawers. The reconstruction process took months of detailed work and the result is a masterpiece. A
masterpiece of craftsmanship and creativity that belongs in a good home to someone who values this refinished, repurposed and reconstructed Drexel Heritage 1940s chest of drawers.
