Fancy beds and the dressings that cover the canopy and the openings indicated the social status and the financial strength of the man. In today's world, hardly anyone uses the canopy tops anymore, but they are still nice even if the curtain dressings are not utilized. Four poster beds are readily available for all persons from various econmic backgrounds and so they are no longer a symbol of wealth. However, there are differences in today's four poster beds most of which boil down to personal preference. Some folks like a bigger, bolder poster that fills the room, while others like a poster that is sleeker and more elegant. Sometimes more is less and somteimes more is, well...more. We have noticed that homeowners who appreciate color and design work would rather see less of the dark wood so that the eyes focus on beautiful fabrics on window treatments, bed dressings and the wall coverings. While others want  to see the wood work. There is no right or wrong, only personal prefernce. And the great thing about Furniture Consignment Gallery is that we have many wonderful four poster beds to choose from at the moment. We have a nice, bold, [turned black King 4 Poster bed](http://furnitureconsignment.com/product/13998-348323blackking4posterbed.php) or a beautiful [Teak, canopy, king bed](http://furnitureconsignment.com/product/13982-29411teakcanopykingbed.php) that has rustic, elegant posters and a canopy top. A larger and more brawny [Thomasville 4 poster king bed](http://furnitureconsignment.com/product/13347-288584thomasvilleking4postbed.php) and a lovely [Hickory Chair canopy King four poster bed](http://furnitureconsignment.com/product/13986-28941hickorychair4postkingbed.php). There are also two four poster beds in Chestnut Hill one that is a Queen and another that is a King. With many four poster beds to choose from, this a great time to make a nice addition to you home. All of these beds are of excellent quality and craftsmanship.     0 Comments [Click here to read/write comments](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/bid/79737/4-Poster-Beds#comments-listing) Topics: [Furniture Consignment Boston](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment-boston), [Mahogany Furniture](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/mahogany-furniture), [Furniture Consignment Hanover](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment-hanover), [Furniture Consignment Newton](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment-newton), [Furniture quality](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-quality), [Furniture Consignment Gallery in Hanover](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment-gallery-in-hanover), [massachusetts](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/massachusetts), [Furniture Consignment](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment), [Furniture Style](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-style), [Furniture](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture), [Furniture Consignment Gallery Newton](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment-gallery-newton), [Bedroom Furniture](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/bedroom-furniture), [Furniture Spotlight](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-spotlight), [Furniture Care](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-care), [Furniture History](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-history), [bed](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/bed), [4-poster](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/4-poster) ## [Tiger Maple Major Dunlap High Boy](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/bid/76043/Tiger-Maple-Major-Dunlap-High-Boy) Posted by Jay Frucci on Sat, March 17, 2012 @ 05: 14 AM - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) ![uimg 0314](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/hs-fs/file-15644857-jpg/images/uimg_0314.jpg?width=263&height=205&name=uimg_0314.jpg)Early American reproduction furniture is a house favorite at Furniture consignment Gallery. This Tiger Maple Dunlap High Boy by Eldred Wheeler is the nicest piece of furniture in our showroom right now so we had to make it our Piece of the Week before it travels to its next destination. Inspired from an original work that was crafted by Major John Dunlap in the late 1700s, this piece has some amazing features. First there is a beautiful scrolled carving at the bottom of the highboy of pinwheels and the fan which is a tell tale sign of a Dunlap piece. The hardware has a nice aged patina and the dove tail cross bar which runs under each drawer is a sign of the wonderful craftsmanship of Eldred Wheeler. ![uimg 0320](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/hs-fs/file-15644959-jpg/images/uimg_0320.jpg?width=269&height=210&name=uimg_0320.jpg) Dunlap was a Northern New England craftsman who used the indigenous maple trees in New Hampshire to craft his furniture. He must have been quite lucky as many of his original creations are made from tiger maple and maple trees that produce the tiger stripes are not identifiable unless they are first cut down. This chest is 80" tall and that is a bit comical given that the average height of an average American in the late 1700s was 5'8". Not even today's taller generations could see into the top drawers without a step stool. This is a wonderful reproduction piece of furniture. The finish is full of life and the construction is bar none. As the month of February has the feel of Spring in the air, maybe we'll be treated to an early and extended summer. Outdoor furniture sets are a substantial investment if you choose to go with good quality and design. That is why, even thought we are still in the dead of winter, we made this great cast aluminum outdoor set our Piece of the Week. Our logic is that it is hard to come by quality pre-owned outdoor furniture sets. ![uimg 8461](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/hs-fs/file-15660088-jpg/images/uimg_8461.jpg?width=283&height=221&name=uimg_8461.jpg) Most of the sets that are offered to us have been well weathered and are not very appealing. Others are rusted, have mildew or have faded quite a bit. But this set is none of those things. It has been well cared for and has many pieces including [a glider](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12011-269123outdoor2personglider.php), [swivvel rocker](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12010-269122outdoorswivelrocker.php), [coffee table](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12012-269124outdoorcoffeetable.php), [end table](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12013-269125outdoorendtable.php),[ three seat sofa](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12014-269126outdoor3personsofa.php), [table with](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12008-269120outdoorroundtableset.php) [ four chairs two umbrellas ](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12008-269120outdoorroundtableset.php)and a [chaise lounge](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/12009-269121outdoorloungechair.php). Though this is a big bed, it does help to maximize the space in the bedroom as the sleigh does not extend too far out. This way you can press the headboard almost flush against the wall. Most sleigh beds have an arched back and as a result you have to alot for more square footage in the bedroom as the bed protrudes further into the room. The footbaord sits below the mattress line and also has very little arch so again it offers more space in the room. ![1uimg 5524](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/hs-fs/file-15629957-jpg/images/1uimg_5524.jpg?width=308&height=240&name=1uimg_5524.jpg) The design tapers out towards the bottom of the bed for a very sleek and modern look. We really like the look of this bed as it is very sleek and sexy, yet it is able to blend in with the more traditional chests and accent pieces. [This Henredon bed is a very good value](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/11527-26382hendredonkingsleighbed.php) and can be had for a very good price at $1,499. Those are "starting at" prices so $899 is a real bargain especially since this sofa is in excellent condition, is a desirable style and an attractive fabric. This sofa is item number [2062-5](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/6967-20625bakerfurnituretightbacksofa.php) in our inventory.  If you prefer to reupholster this sofa, you would need approximately 20 yards of fabric and it may cost about $1,000 in labor. So even if you wanted to reupholster this sofa, it is still a good deal.  That is why this [Baker Furniture sofa](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/6967-20625bakerfurnituretightbacksofa.php) is our Deal of the Week. 0 Comments [Click here to read/write comments](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/bid/55314/Baker-Furniture-Tight-Back-Sofa-Deal-of-the-Week#comments-listing) Topics: [Sofa](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/sofa), [Baker Furniture](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/baker-furniture), [Furniture Consignment](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment), [Furniture Value](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-value), [Furniture Style](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-style) ## [Maitland-Smith Sheraton Pembroke Table - Piece of the Week](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/bid/54696/Maitland-Smith-Sheraton-Pembroke-Table-Piece-of-the-Week) Posted by Jay Frucci on Sat, February 26, 2011 @ 07: 22 AM - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) We are fortuanet to have a [Maitland-Smith](http://www.maitland-smith.com/) Sheraton Style Mahogany Pembroke End Table in our showroom.  It is [item number 2164-2](http://www.furnitureconsignment.com/product/7652-21642maitlandsmithconsoletable.php) in our inventory and is priced at $1,999. This piece takes the spotlight this week because of the beautiful veneer work. [Maitland-Smith's](http://www.maitland-smith.com/) furniture makers are more than craftsmen.  They are true artisans creating pieces that are more like artwork than furniture. This particular piece features hand-stenciled, and hand-drawn art on the surface. The stenciling blends in beautifully with the walnut, satin and ebonized mahogany veneers. In addition to the amazing veneer work, [Maitland-Smith's](http://www.maitland-smith.com/) drawer construction is not the typical dovetail and is instead similare to a tongue and groove.  The tongue and groove construction is structurally very sound. [Maitland-Smith](http://www.maitland-smith.com/) has one of the most complete selections of reproduction end tables in the marketplace, but we really like this one because it is very detailed and is subtle with its design, yet it is very striking. Other maufacturers who do a wonderful job with their end tables are [Kindel Furniture](http://www.kindelfurniture.com/collections/) and [Kittinger Furniture](http://www.kittingerfurniture.com/tables.html). We have placed this beautiful piece of furniture art in the center of our showroom and customers are unable to walk past it without an "ooh" or an "ahhh".  0 Comments [Click here to read/write comments](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/bid/54696/Maitland-Smith-Sheraton-Pembroke-Table-Piece-of-the-Week#comments-listing) Topics: [Inlay](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/inlay), [Console Table](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/console-table), [Maitland-Smith](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/maitland-smith), [Furniture Consignment](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-consignment), [Furniture Style](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-style), [Tongue and Groove](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/tongue-and-groove), [Veneer](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/veneer) [All posts](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/all) [Next](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/furniture-spotlight/topic/furniture-style/page/2)       ![](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Evergreen%20Images/jay-45.jpg?width=200&name=jay-45.jpg "jay-45.jpg") Jay Frucci, President and Owner, Furniture Consignment Gallery [**Back to Blog Home**](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/) ### Latest Posts **View [All Posts](https://info.furnitureconsignment.com/all)** Search this site on Google Search Google ### Subscribe by Email ### Follow Me --- **HANOVER** 756 Washington St. (Rt. 53) Hanover, MA 02339 Phone: 781-826-5114 Fax: 781-829-9805   Sunday: 12-5 Monday-Saturday: 10-6 **NATICK**  104 Worcester St. (Rt. 9 East) Natick, MA 01760 Phone: 508-319-5600 Fax: 508-319-5601   Sunday: 11-5 Monday-Saturday: 10-6 **PLYMOUTH** 762 State Rd.
